James Blake “The Wilhelm Scream” dir. Alexander Brown

If you’re gonna make a music video that’s essentially just a close-up of the artist performing the song, you better make it pretty damn special. Well, Director Alexander Brown (who began his career as an Art Director for print) does just that with the new music video for James Blake’s haunting, spare track “The Wilhelm Scream”. Blake is featured in close-up for the duration of the video (as described above), but Brown uses a mélange of techniques to spice it up: de-focused photography, blurry superimpositions, and host of other optical effects I can only assume were achieved largely in-camera. It’s pretty damn special. Check it out below.
