Listen: “Two Islands”
Amusement’s “Two Islands” Remix:
From: Liverpool, UK
Label: Double Denim Records (limited vinyl release)
Sounds Like: Whitest Boy Alive meets Islands meets tUnE-yArDs meets some evil noise.
Reason to listen: This dark electronic rock song is a landscape of modern sounds that allows you to hear a new influence every time you listen to it. The Amusement remix is a much dancier take on the song, but I think I might like it better than the original (if that’s possible!!).
Label: Terrible Records
Sounds Like: Smooth and funky dance-electronica that might make you shout “Break it down!” while doing a James Brown impression (may he rest in peace).
Reason to listen: Chris Taylor, aka CANT, aka the bassist and producer of Grizzly Bear, started his own label, Terrible Records, that boasts Twin Shaddow, Class Actress and a Chairlift 7″. Nothing bad could come from this label, including Kindness.
Artist: Jacuzzi Boys
From: Miami, FLORIDA
Label: Hardly Art
Sounds Like: Garage punk that’s apathetic about its angst. Like a chilling-out-in-the-summertime song for punk rockers.
Reason to listen: This band impressed Jack White so much that he recorded and released a live record for the band through his label Third Man Records.
